Established in 2007 by Prime Ministerial Decree N° 2007/1459/PM, Bakossi National Park covers 29,320 hectares of pristine wilderness in the Kupe-Muanenguba Division of Cameroon’s South West Region. It is the only national park in the Cameroon Highlands Forest Eco-region, making it an ecological gem of national and global importance.
Rising from 300 meters to 1,895 meters above sea level, the park is a mosaic of diverse habitats — from lush sub-montane forests and semi-deciduous Atlantic forests, to the expansive cloud forests of Bakossi, the largest of their kind in West and Central Africa.
